DragonFacts
A book's publisher will rarely get 100% from a sale of one of their books. There are almost always other people or entities that play a role and will share in that sale.

Sales & Marketing

Books don't sell themselves. Dragonpencil will work with you to create a book to the highest industry standards but that is just the beginning. Selling your books requires a plan and often it means cooperating with another entity like a distributor. Years ago we built the Big Tent Book publishing brand to assist authors with the distribution process. Over time Big Tent Books has grown into the premier source for top quality children's books. We are already established with the major wholesalers who normally shun independent books. Big Tent Books also does the job of a distributor without the cost of a distributor. When you join the Big Tent Books family, you are joining a community of children's authors who share their knowledge and encouragement.

Big Tent Books was built by the authors it represents. We adapt to the rapidly changing landscape of children's publishing and we grow with new ideas from our authors. When you team up with our family, you receive a wealth of tools and knowledge.

Also, we strongly recommend you read Peter Bowerman's book before getting too deep into the publishing process (let alone the marketing process). The book and accompanying CD are included as part of our standard publishing package. Or you can purchase it right here.

How many books should I expect to sell in the first year?
We can't answer that but we have seen authors sell up to 7000 books in their first year. It really depends on your level of activity in publicizing you book.

Is Dragonpencil connected to Big Tent Books?
Yes. Big Tent Books and Dragonpencil are both Whimsical companies.

Why should I use a distributor?
For most of our clients a distributor seems not to be the best option. With the assistance of Big Tent Books, you can easily sell your books in any venue.
