The cover of a book is critical to its success. We are all used to looking for great products inside great packaging. And when we see a product in unremarkable packaging, we jump to the assumption that the product is also unremarkable.
There are two aspects to a cover; design and illustration. Dragonpencil can do either or both for you. If you already have a photograph or illustration, we can design an amazing cover with it. Or, if you are a great designer but need the perfect illustration for your design, you came to the right place. And, if you need both art and design, we will be happy to create an award-worthy cover for you.

We provide art for every genre and in any style. Fantasy, Biography, Self-Help, Spiritual, Horror, Mystery, Humor, Business, Sci-Fi, Romance, How-to, or any other kind of fiction or non-fiction.

What size will the cover art be?
We will create the artwork to the dimensions you provide. We always add generous 'bleed area' that deigners and printers appreciate.
What format will the art be in?
300 DPI, CYMK, jpg format is the standard format preferred by printers. If you require anything different we ill be happy to accomodate you.
How is the final art delivered?
The final art is generally transmitted electronically. The file size is usally around 20 megabytes. We can also privide a CD by mail if you prefer.
Do I get the original painting?
In modern illustration, it is rare that an original painting even exists. We use high tech tools that mimic brushes and paints on a digital canvas. If you would like a painting, we can create one for you by printing the image on canvas and painting upon it. This costs $300 per square foot.
Whether you need a single character standing alone, or an elaborate scene, we can paint it for a reasonable price. Unlike our children's book illustration, you don't choose your artist. Our art directors choose the best artist or team of artists to make your particular vision come to life. We retain some of the best cover artists in the business and provide them with steady work to keep them happy.
Cover illustrations are done in stages. This allows you to provide feedback, and for the artist(s) to make changes before the final art is painted.
If you want the likeness of a specific person, animal, or place, we may need you to provide photographs. In order to choose the right artist(s) we will ask about the style of your artwork. Most modern cover art is done in a realist style, but you might prefer abstract, cartoonish, or something else entirely.

Cover Design
Designing a cover requires so much more than technical skill. A great cover designer manipulates the text and the imagery to excite potential customers of the book. The front cover is the showpiece of a book but the spine and back cover should not be forgotten. Also, if your book has a dustjackets, you must consider the design of the front and back flaps. Not only will our designer make all these parts look professional and modern, but will work with you in creating any content you need to fill those parts. Let's get started!
